The Tha Dan dam is part of a multipurpose project aiming at supplying water for irrigation and for domestic consumption as well as at mitigating floods. The water retaining structures, designed by Tractebel, consists of two RCC dams and a clay core saddle dam, impounding a reservoir with a water storage capacity of 224 million cubic meters. The 93 m high and 2,720 m long Klong Tha Dan Dam is one of the largest Roller-Compacted Concrete dam in the world by volume of concrete used, at nearly 5 million cubic metres.
